An armed group in Kufra town, southeast Libya, attacked on Friday the shrine of Imam Mahdi Senussi, the father of Libya’s former king Idris Senussi, and exhumed his body.

Sources from the town said the group stormed the shrine late on Friday, dug up the grave and took the body to an unknown location.

It’s the second attack on the shrine.

In 2012, unknown attackers exhumed the grave and took Mahdi’s body to a nearby cemetery, but his relatives managed to locate the new grave and returned the body to his first resting place in Zawit Taj shrine.

Local residents pointed the finger at Sobol Al-Salam Brigade, a radical group of Madkhali sect that operates under Khalifa Haftar’s self-styled army and have control over most of the city.

Madkhali Brigade Attacked the Shrine of omar Almukhtar

Earlier, an armed group in Sulug town, 53 kilometers to the southeast Benghazi, attempted to attack the shrine of Libyan hero Omar Mukhtar on the pretext of being worshipped by the Sufi followers.

They will try again and again!!
